Engine update software

Hello,

I have a 420D with which I am enough satisfied. I was called by my garage to perform the following update:

ISPA CT-1-0011450400 Automatic transmission programming, replace the recycling electrovalve if needed

Has anyone did the same ? Any hints why this needed ?
